http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Fawad-Alam-c56883 – A forgotten potential – Part Two
Continued from the previous part...
The left-handed batsman’s case is strengthened by a fantastic first-class career till date. Fawad represents National Bank of Pakistan in the national cricket of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 and has already played 80 first-class matches, in which he has scored 6375 runs at
a staggering average of 57.43 runs per innings.
His average in first-class cricket is even more special, considering the fact that some of the legendary batsmen produced by Pakistan, like http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mohammad-Yousuf-c77465 failed to maintain such stats in the four-day format.
This proves that Fawad has special talent and possesses the temperament to convert his starts into big knocks as he already has 15 first-class hundreds under his belt.
Apart from his batting skills, the talented sportsman can role his arm over with the ball and can chip in with some economical overs, especially in the shorter formats of the game. On top of that, he is one of the best fielders in the country.
The 26-year-old scored 945 runs in Quaid e Azam Trophy 2011-12, Division One and finished at number three in the top run-getters list.
National selection committee headed by former Test cricketer, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 and included a number of young cricketers, who have been performing well in the domestic circuit. However,
the left-handed batsman was ignored once again and failed to find a place in any of the teams.
Alam showed a big heart after the announcement of the squads and wished the new players for good performances in the Island.
“They have earned it through their performances in domestic cricket. I wish them all the best and I hope they will perform well,” he expressed.
PCB announced central contracts for the coming season last week and declared stipends for 21 top-performers of domestic cricket but completely forgot the left-handed batsman.
Fawad is disappointed at being ignored again and again but he thinks that no player can be written-off forever and has immense faith in his destiny. The positive thing about Alam is that he is not ready to give up even at this stage of his career, which
is a quality every good sportsman holds.
The left-hander added, “It’s a step that shows nobody has been forgotten by the selectors and that those who perform well will get the opportunity to play sooner or later. I’ve also been performing well and I will try my best to continue to do that, so I
can make an international comeback soon. I am working hard – the rest is in Allah’s hands.”
The left-handed batsman has played in all the three http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 World T20s so far and it remains to be seen that he will be considered for the upcoming mega event or not, which will be played in Sri Lanka in September/October.
Some of the critics believe that the Karachi-born batsman is not as stylish as some of the other young players in the country and his ability to cope with high-quality fast bowling remains questionable.
All the major cricketing countries rely on their domestic cricket to form a strong national team and if PCB gives importance to first-class matches in the country, then Alam deserves a reasonable stint at the international level to prove his worth, as he
has an unmatchable record in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy.
