http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Fawad-Alam-c56883 desperate for international return – Cricket News Update
Fawad Alam, the discarded Pakistani middle-order batsman, is geared up to return to the national team and claimed that he has enhanced his skills by playing alongside some of world’s most experienced cricketers in the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 Premier
League (SLPL).
The 26-year-old cricketer came through the ranks of junior cricket in the country and was a part of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 Under-19 side's World Cup winning campaign in 2004. The left-hander made his international debut in 2007, but has so far
failed to cement his place in the national side, although he scored a brilliant hundred against Sri Lanka in his very first Test in 2009.
The left-handed batsman last represented Pakistan in December 2010 during the T20 series in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754. Since then, he has failed to regain the selectors’ faith, despite performing exceptionally well in the country’s domestic cricket,
representing Karachi and the National Bank of Pakistan.
Fawad was part of the UVA Next squad which went on to win the inaugural edition of the SLPL, but failed to get a single game.
The cricketer from Karachi expressed that such tournaments can help the youngsters gain confidence for performing in front of huge crowds. Alam was geared up to do well in the cash-rich league in order to strengthen his case for national
selection; however, he was unlucky not to have gotten an opportunity.
"It’s obviously a great opportunity for the players to feature in such high profile tournaments, especially because T20 is a popular format. Playing these tournaments and performing well in them also helps you get noticed by the national
selectors," he said while talking to Pakpassion.
A number of domestic and international stars played for UVA Next in the SLPL, and the young left-hander from Pakistan believes that he learnt a lot from them.
He added, "It’s been great to be with the likes of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/JDP-Oram-c1681 and Andrew Mc Donald - and although I haven’t played a game but even practising with Oram and Chanderpaul has been a priceless experience. They
have given me a lot of advice and I have learned a number of things by exchanging our views."
