Fax or Answering Machine?

If I have a splitter on my phone line, with a fax attached, will an unanswered call go to the answering machine or the fax?

both, actually, and you will probably hear fax tones on your answering machine.

Depend on the fax machine that you have. You can look at the fax machine menu how to connect fax and phone. If you look at your fax machine manual then you will see setting for fax tone setup.

Connect the fax and answering machine in series.  If I remember the order right, it is fax then the other.  The fax will let a regular call go to the machine if it does not get a fax signal.  But check on that last part.  We do that in job offices.
