Faysal Bank Super 8 – Karachi Dolphins v Rawalpindi Rams – Match Recap
The Rawalpindi Rams sealed a resounding victory against potential favourites, the Karachi Dolphins, in an electrifying clash which saw the introduction of a super over for the first time in the tournament when Rawalpindi managed to draw the game at the end
of the allotted 20 overs.
It was the nerves of steel by the Rawalpindi’s 18-year old left-arm spinner, Raza Hasan, who restrained the Karachi batsmen from scoring 17 runs in the super over which was required to win the game, played at Iqbal Stadium, Faisalabad.
After levelling the game, Pindi batted first and it was Awais Zia who wreaked havoc on the Karachi bowlers in the super over as he clobbered two boundaries and a six in the over. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sohail-Ahmed-Khan-c90634, the tall fast bowler failed to restrict Zia, who seemed in a remarkable
form with the bat.
With 17 runs to win, Karachi desperately tried to score off Raza, however, in doing so they lost the wicket of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Khalid-Latif-c71261 who was caught while trying to go after the young spinner.
Later Raza neutralized the hard-hitting Shahzaib Hasan, by not allowing him to freely smack the ball as Rawalpindi for the first time in their history, won a domestic T20 title.
Earlier in the day, after winning the toss, the Rams elected to field first.
Karachi, which had a better side than the Rams, opened their innings in a sensible way as both the opening batsmen avoided taking any serious risks.
However, in the 4th over, the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mohammad-Rameez-c77197, was run-out at the keeper’s end on a superb throw by Hammad Azam, who was standing at third-man.
Hasan scored 12-runs off 14 deliveries before walking back to the pavilion.
It was then the phenomenal Rameez Raja, who took the field and together with Shafiq smacked the Rams all around the park.
The two piled up 66 runs for the second wicket partnership, however, on the penultimate delivery of the 10th over, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shafiq-c89281 was trapped in front of stumps on a delivery that bolted into his pads, bowled by Raza Hasan after scoring 36 runs. At the
time of his departure the Dolphins were on 90.
It was then Raja and Khalid Latif who did the bulk of scoring for their side as the two took the side’s tally to 160 during the third-wicket partnership in which the two batsmen piled 70 runs.
Raja lost his wicket on the second delivery of the final over after getting stumped by the Ram’s wicketkeeper as the batsman got completely beaten by a delivery bowled by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Raza-Hasan-c84407. The batsman played a staggering innings of 64 runs, helping his side in
posting a formidable tally on the board. Latif, on the other hand played an unbeaten knock of 36-runs.
Coming out to bat, Rawalpindi knew they were up against a belligerent bowling attack and needed to play wisely to prevail in the end. Opener Awais Zia smacked 43 runs while his partner could only bolster eight runs. One down batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Jamal-Anwar-c65380 failed to
impress anyone in the final as he was sent back on nil.
With wickets falling around, it was Rawalpindi’s middle-order batsman, Umar Amin, who stood defiant against the Karachi bowlers and kept the score board ticking as he clobbered 32 runs off 34 deliveries. Late middle-order batsmen http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Adnan-Mufti-c42057 and Hammad Azam
contributed 31 and 23 runs in their conquest towards equalling the tally.
Needing just one run to win, the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mohammad-Sarfraz-Ahmed-c77293 stumped him.
However, Hasan redeemed himself by bowling his side to victory later when the going got tough in the super over.
Karachi Dophins' Pacer Sohail Khan was named as the Man of the Match for taking five wickets in the match.
