‘Fear is a great motivator,’ says Dallas Cowboys' owner Jerry Jones – NFL News
After sharing his heart out during a radio show earlier this week, Dallas Cowboys Owner/General Manager reiterated on Thursday that fear ‘motivates’ him. At the same time, however, he also clarified his remarks.
At the start of the week when his team was getting ready to prepare for a crucial game against Philadelphia Eagles, Jones recalled the time when the Cowboys were beaten by the Eagles earlier this season and said that he was sacred
of the Eagles.
On Thursday, he maintained that fear is a motivating force for him, and that’s why he had used the term during his comments.
“It's motivated me a lot," Jones said. "Being afraid of messing up has caused me to be more conscientious, caused me to be prepared. I've said that all my life—fear is a great motivator, great, and especially in this sport.”
The Cowboys are leading the National Football Conference East division with eight victories and six defeats under their belt. With only two more games left in the regular season for all the teams in the division, anxiety is at
its peak.
The Cowboys can secure an entry into the playoffs on the Christmas Eve if fortune favours them. If the Eagles get defeated and New York Jets should crush New York Giants then the Cowboys will reach the postseason.
If the Cowboys and the Giants win their respective games on Saturday then the division leader will be decided in the final game of the regular season where these two sides will face each other.
"I must tell you, I get pretty excited every game we play," Jones said. "That's never stopped. But when you get here, you're in contention, it's what you hope for, you've got reasonably good health out there.”
Meanwhile, Cowboys’ Defensive Coordinator Rob Ryan has said that he could be the reason behind Jones’ fear.
During the game against the Eagles earlier this season, the Cowboys’ defence failed miserably. The Cowboys were defeated 34-7 and the defence gave away 495 yards to opponent’s offense.
Ryan thinks that the dreadful performance in that game could be the reason that Jones is sacred of the Eagles. However, he vowed to show a better game-play on Saturday and said that he has chalked out an effective plan to contain
the Eagles this time. He further said that it is a payback time and his players will give their best shot to make sure they win this time.
