Fear of Black Widow Spiders?

Ok, for some reason, I decided to read on Black Widow spiders...And now I am completely freaking out. I live in Maryland, and no, I have never seen one, but I've seen alot of spiders, and I am scared to do anything outdoors now. How do I assure myself that I am safe? My brother found a bigass ******* spider downstairs in his bathroom awhile ago, and more spiders have been coming in (no black widows, but a recluse spider at one point).

  1. Also black widows like dark places like garages and basements.  but to be sure have a professional fumigator come out and fumigate your house or you could get an insecticide bomb and set it off yourself.  I know what you are going through...There is a huge spider outside my back door that I'm not sure what it is and I think i killed it but it disappeared when I jumped inside so I didnt' get the insecticide in my eyes.  So now I'm scared to put my dogs outside.  I also just killed a whole bunch of black widows in my backyard in a dark corner by a bucket.  Black widows also like wood piles.

  2. well, maybe that maryland has spiders...but u dont have to worry, really because spiders are isolated and shy creatures...they wont harm any1 unless threatened...so dont worry, just be sure that spiders r left alone... and dont ever harm a spider, especially the big ones...

well, black widow and bird-eating tarantulas r the baddest spiders in the world....but they r usually found in forests....

  3. Look man you don't have to really worry because most black widow's are in the south and other hot places.

  4. Arachnophobia (fear of spiders) is a psychological problem and can be treated through therapy and use of special techniques. I suggest you talk to your physician about it.

    Preventing Spider Problems

There are many ways to make your home less appealing to spiders. If there are cracks in your foundation or around windows and doors, seal them up.

Check places where water pipes and electrical lines enter your house, and caulk any openings.

Keep woodpiles and debris away from your house.

In storage areas, put boxes up off the floor and away from walls.

Seal boxes with tape to keep spiders from living inside them.

In general, cleaning up clutter will mean you have fewer spiders.

Pruning vegetation away from your house and keeping the area next to the foundation clear will also make your house less attractive to spiders.

Outdoor lighting sometimes attracts insects, which in turn attracts spiders. You can move outdoor lighting away from windows and doors if this is a problem around your home.

    Removing Spiders

You can remove a spider from inside your house by putting a jar over it. Then slip a piece of paper under the jar so that the opening is sealed, pick up the jar, and take the spider outside.

A broom is also a useful tool for moving a spider outside. - http://www.pesticide.org/spiders.html

  6. I'm also afraid to black widow spiders though I don't know how it happens. The only thing I can remember is that when i've first see one of their species, i'v already feared them..It is because of their body structure and their wild apperance..Actually we have the same problem on how to get rid of them. Here in the Philippines their specie are widely scattered especially on homes..The only solution i've think is that to inspect every place, especially the bathroom, before staying on it.And if it happens that i'v found one,I immediately call for my mom's assistance,,Then she is the one who makes the necessary move for it to vanish in my sight...,,,
