  1. Keep in mind that you are far, far safer on a plane than driving to the airport.  Think about how many flights are in the air at any given time - thousands and thousands going from city to city, all over the world, every single day, without a single incident.  That's how safe it is.  Whereas *every* day you hear of a car crash.  The car is more dangerous.

  2. Think about what it is that you don't like about flying.  You will then have a better chance of dealing with it.

  3. Marc is right - 48,000 people a year die in car crashes, and you only hear of plane crashes now and then.  Flying is the safest way to travel.  You have a greater chance of falling in the bathroom and hitting your head and dying than you do of dying in a plane crash - and you don't lay awake at night afraid of the next morning in the bathroom, right?  :-)

Take some music, a book, or other things to keep yourself occupied.  And look at it this way - once you face your fear of flying, you will know how strong you are.  Also, with flying, the world literally opens up to you.  Amazing cities, remote jungles, ancient ruins, beautiful beaches....all at your fingertips and one flight away.

As with anything in life, you should embrace the adventure with excitement, not dread.  Have fun, and enjoy the ride!
