Fear of tornadoes?

I have a fear of tornadoes. I live in SC and have all my life. It's gotten much worse and I was put on Zoloft for it. It got to the pt over this weekend I was so terrified that I was throwing up, and the tornadic storm was 30 min to the south of me and not coming anywhere near me. I'm a Christian and have strong faith in GOD that he will take care of me and family. He's answered many of my prayers and I feel like I am sinning when I panic about the weather. I've never even been thru a tornado, just had a couple of close calls. Can someone shed some light?

  1. Move to Phoenix or Tucson.

If you are employed in S.C. and have to live there, ask your local Community Building safety Department to require that your buildings switch to the new structural strap-netting reinforcing systems, which keeps the buildings up through tornados. Be sure you tell them of your medical condition about tornados. Have them review my profile page and Engineering and Physics Q's and A's, if they haven't heard about these systems yet. Good Luck; God Bless and Speed; Randy, the eggster.

  2. First off, you may in fact be sinning by experiencing these fears.   A perfect faith would let you know that God is IN CONTROL, that nothing can harm you, unless He ALLOWS IT.  But before you start being too hard on yourself, understand that your phobia is NOT your only sin.  All Christians sin.  Some of them of concious choices we make, in open defiance of God.  "Sins" like fear just seem to be.  View your fears as a reminder of something to strive for.  Honestly, it sounds to me like you need some therapy.  There's little difference between an unnatural fear of flying, dying, spiders, commitment, or tornadoes.  I would strongly encourage you to seek out a Christian counselling service.  Who knows, maybe it's chemical.  Maybe it can be treated through therapy.  But we know you can't simply will away this fear; so, stop trying.

    Lord bless.

  3. Anyone would be wise to fear them or at least be nervous.  They don't place nice.  But don't worry about them....  Just know what to do in case one happens along.
