Question:

Fearing lawsuit from car accident and no information from the other driver?

I was at fault in a minor accident recently and I was so shaken up, I wasn't thinking clearly. I didn't get their information and I caused very expensive damage to their car. I'm afraid the person will sue. Is there anyway of preventing a lawsuit without their telephone number? Can they even get my information somehow to file a lawsuit?

Also, I really don't know why they wouldn't get MY information with the damage I caused. Will their insurance cover the damage?

  1. they probably didnt have any insurance or had a suspended driver's license, or no license at all

  2. Depends on the other person.  I was hit by an illegal immigrant, and then hit with a bunch of lawsuits.  They went for the gold, but lost.

  3. If they did not get any info from you and the police were not called, then they have something to hide. They may not have a license, insurance if required in your state, they may be a felon on the run, tell me more about this case?

  4. Go to the police department in the city where the accident happened. Give them the date, your name, and the information regarding the accident. Have them give you a copy of the police report. The report should contain all of your information and all of the other party's information, including insurance.

In the event you are going to be sued, most of the time the blood sucking attorney's go after the insurance companies first, you'll be notified  via mail. In  the event your insurance company is sued or has a claim filed against them, they will contact you.

I didnt see any answers above that seemed legit. Just because you have an accident doesn't mean you'll get a ticket, and just because someone doesn't file a claim for compensation doesn't  mean they have something to hide. You can also call your insurance company and inquire if any claims have been filed against your policy as a result of the accident.

There is no way to prevent it, only be prepared for it. I hope this helps and good luck.

  5. It may not be the same in all states, but in mine if the police get involved some one is getting a ticket. You didn't mention a ticket, if you didn't get one the police didn't find you to be at fault. Good luck
