Febby Angguni overwhelms Liang Xiaoyu in opening round of the 2011 Indonesia International Challenge
Indonesia’s Febby Angguni beat Singapore’s Liang Xiaoyu in their Women’s Singles opening round encounter at the 2011 Indonesia Open International, in Indonesia, on Tuesday, July 19.
The Indonesian dug deep into her arsenal to prove her worth against the Singaporean in a rubber-set match, which took a court time of 51 minutes. Febby cheered the home crowd by playing to her full potential and was successful in winning the match.
The opening set was a nightmare for the local shuttler, as Xiaoyu played tremendous badminton and did not face any sort of resistance from her opponent. Febby struggled hard to find her momentum and she was not moving smoothly in the court because of the
variations put in the strokes by her challenger.
Xiaoyu rushed towards the concluding phase of the opening set as her opponent was playing a negative game by hitting the bird into the net or out of the court. Febby was unable to play well in the first game and lost it by a stunning gap of 7-21, in just
13 minutes.
However, the local player made a remarkable comeback in the match as she played superb badminton in the second set. Febby eliminated all the errors she made in the previous game and built pressure on the Singaporean shuttler, who failed to continue her positive
run in the second game.
Until the interval, the Indonesian created a three-point gap by reaching 11-8. She continued her dominant position in the second set even after the break, as her powerful smashes earned her many points. Febby won the second game in wonderful fashion with
a margin of 21-15, in 20 minutes.
The final game was also easy for the Indonesian, who became confident after winning the second set. She remained in superb control of the bird in the deciding game against the shaky Singaporean, who made many errors at the crucial stages of the match. Febby
finished-off the game in 18 minutes with a 21-14 margin. The 51-minute first round match ended with a 7-21, 21-15 and 21-14 score on the board.
