Since I have a really old TV, and I wanted satellite TV for it, the Dish people came and hooked up this gray cable that looks like a cable for an antenna that plugs into the wall. Will that not work in February 2009?

  1. Cable and satellite companies are required to keep standard definition signals for another few years. . . I'm thinking it's 2012, but don't quote me on that.  I'd expect that most will keep it as an option beyond that, too.

Did the "dish people" get you a tuner box that's HD-capable or not?  If you have no idea, find the tuner box, look for a model number, and call whoever hooked everything up.  If you have a HD-capable box (which doesn't mean you necessarily have to have any HD programming), then it'll be good for the foreseeable future.  If not, then you might be getting a new one sometime before they quit carrying SD signals completely a few years down the road.
