Question:

February in Spain: Barcelona and...?

I am getting married in mid-February and immediately leaving for a honeymoon, meaning I'll spend the last two weeks in February in our chosen destination, which is Spain. We've already decided we want to see Barcelona, but we want to do a few days in another city or town, to get a fuller (though still not complete) picture of Spanish culture, and to vary our activities.

What do you recommend? Our criteria are:

1) That the place be interesting and/or fun (of course!),

2) That transportation from Barcelona not be terribly lengthy or expensive. We don't mind 3-4 hours on a train or a cheap, direct flight.

and

3) Preferably, that the place be as warm as possible. We know we won't get very warm weather in February, but if one part of Spain is 50 degrees and another is 60 degrees, we want the latter.

What do you think of making Gibraltar or elsewhere in Andalusia our second destination?

  1. You've picked a great country to honeymoon in and Barcelona is a lovely romantic city.

You want as warm as possible - at this time of year, you must choose the Canary Islands, they are warm all year round because they are close to Africa.  You can get a cheap flight from Barcelona to Tenerife, Gran Canaria etc.  The average temp in Feb is 74F so you can definitely spend some time on the beach.  Plus for your honeymoon I think an island would be really romantic and fun too!  Here is a link to the cheapest available flights at the moment from Barcelona.  I would advise waiting a bit before booking as the prices will come down....

Trains in Spain for the most part are really slow - you would need most of the day to travel from Barcelona to Andalucia and the trains are expensive.  The high speed train from Barcelona to Seville takes 7 hours and costs 128 euros per person one way.

    Also, Gibraltar is horrible.

    Have fun!

  2. Having lived and worked in Spain many times, I beg you to visit GRANADA! The Alhambra is one of the most stunning sites in Europe and most beautiful. Granada is in Andalucia and you will get cheap flights from Barcelona by skyscanner, mentioned in the answer above. Andalucia is the real Spain, Granada is cheap and famous for Tapas, the Alhambra (was on the list for the newly selected 7 modern wonders of the world) and the Albacin, the moorish district.

All the best and a save and great trip
