I understand that players earn points throughout the season and then there is a cut and only the players that make the cut get to compete thru september. how is the winner determined? It all seems to confusing to me.

  1. All through the year, the PGA players play the regular schedule, earning points for where they finish in the standings.

Heres an example for the upcoming PGA Championship.

if mickelson has 12,000 points for the season and the first prize is 3000 points, he will have 15,000 for the season.

If Els has 14,000 and finish second, for 1500 points, he will have 15,500 which would put him ahead of mickelson.

This goes on for the whole season, and with 5 tournaments to go, they take the top 30 players with the most points and there is a playoff system. Last year, Tiger woods skipped one event, and one two of them, taking home the first FedEx cup. At the end of the season, whoever has the most points wins the Fedex cup.
