FedEx Cup top ten golfers: one of them will win the Tour Championship
Without Tiger Woods participating in the Tour Championship, the PGA final could go to just about anyone in the top ten of the FedEx Cup standings.
10: Phil Mickelson
Aside from winning the Tour Championship last year, Mickelson has also won the Masters three times,  and the 2005 PGA Championship. This year he won his third Masters. He also looked better than he had in a long time at the BMW Championship last week.
9: Martin Laird
His only win so far was the 2009 Open Championship, but he took Matt Kuchar to a play-off at The Barclays in August, and he’s managed to rank ninth in the FedEx Cup heading into the final tournament of the season. He’s doing something right and it’s just
a matter of time till he wins another major tournament.
8: Ernie Els
Ernie Els has been playing golf for a long time. He has the experience to win any tournament. This year he won the World Golf Championships and the Arnold Palmer Invitational.
7: Luke Donald
He hasn’t won a PGA tournament since the 2006 Honda Classic, but he won the Madrid Masters in May on the European Tour, and he’s on the European Ryder Cup team.  He also finished second twice this year at the Northern Trust Open and the Deutsche Bank Championship.
6: Jason Day
He won the HP Byron Nelson Championship this year and tied Luke Donald for second at the Deutsche Bank Championship too. He finished the BMW Championship tied for 37th, but he was a two-under on his last day. The break this week may give him the
edge he needs to finish near the top next weekend.
5: Paul Casey
Paul Casey lost the BMW Championship by blowing a three-stroke lead on the final five holes. He’ll be motivated to play well at the Tour Championship, and not go to the Ryder Cup with a ‘chokes under pressure’ label.
4: Steve Stricker
Steve Stricker won the Northern Trust Open and the John Deere Classic this year. Last year he won three PGA tournaments, and in 2007 he won the Barclays. He’s 43 years old and won his first tournament in 1996. He is an example of a player that gets better
with age. From 1996 to 2006 he won three PGA tournaments; since then he’s won six. He’s on the USA’s Ryder Cup team this year. If you’re the kind of person who likes to bet on the hare, Stricker is your man.
3: Charley Hoffman
He won the Deutsche Bank Championship this year by five strokes, his second ever PGA tournament victory, but since then he finished 27th at The Barclays and 30th at the BMW Championship.
2: Dustin Johnson
Dustin Johnson looked to be heading to a play-off at the PGA Championship, but the officials ruled that he touched the sand in a bunker with his club earlier on the hole. Most agree that the sand trap looked more like a sidewalk after 40,000 fans had trampled
through it over the weekend, but the ruling stood and Johnson was not included in the play-off. As upsetting as a terrible call like that can be, Johnson showed he’s moved past it by winning last week’s BMW Championship. He’s on a roll now; the only question
is: how many sand traps are there at the East Lake Golf Club?
1: Matt Kuchar
He won The Barclays this year, and the Turning Stone Resort Championship last year. His only other tournament win was the 2002 Honda Classic, but he tied for third at the BMW Championship and 11th at the Deutsche Bank Championship. He’s always
near the top of the leaderboard, and in the number one position heading into the Tour Championship for a reason. The $10 million FedEx Cup prize is his to lose.
