FedEx extends sponsorship with St. Jude Classic until 2014
FedEx Corporation announced on Tuesday that they have extended their one-year sponsorship deal with Professional Golf Association tour’s St. Jude Classic by three years through 2014.
After going through a successful year, FedEx has decided to extend the deal. This deal will not only benefit the PGA tour, but also support the charity organizations linked with it. FedEx had been supporting the St. Jude Children's
Research Hospital.
The news was disclosed in a press conference held in Ponte Verde Beach by the PGA Tour chief, Tim Finchem.
Finchem said, "FedEx has taken a significant step to assure the continuation of its hometown tournament over the next four years. FedEx obviously values the impact that the tournament has on the Memphis community and the St. Jude
Children's Research Hospital, in particular."
The St. Jude Classic is one of the four events sponsored by FedEx. The other three take place by the end of the season to decide the winner of the FedEx Cup.
Commenting on the issue, executive vice president of Market Development at FedEx, T. Michael Glenn said, “FedEx is happy to continue our long relationship with the FedEx St. Jude Classic and, more importantly, our support of the
St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Our involvement with this tournament allows thousands of Memphis-based FedEx employees to play a direct role in the support of St. Jude.”
The FedEx St. Jude Classic, which takes place in June, has donated $25 million for the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Apart from that, it has played a crucial role in increasing awareness about the activities taking place
in the hospital.
FESJC General Chairman, Jack Sammons talked about the contributions of FedEx in bringing joy to the faces of children of St.Jude. He said that the announcement was an answer to their prayers and music to their ears.
FedEx started sponsoring PGA Tour events in 1986 and continued doing that until 2006. In 2007, the corporation joined hands with the tour in launching the FedEx Cup, the purpose of which was to reward the best player of the season.
However, during this period, FedEx remained as the title sponsor for the St. Jude Classic, which is due to take place at the Tournament Player Club Southwind.
