Federal subsidized stafford loan. Can I make payments while in school?

I qualify for a Federal subsidized stafford loan. Which would really help because I need a way to pay for my dorm.

I was planning on finding a part-time job, and I know I will not make enough money to afford the monthly payments.

I am wanting to know if I am obligated to wait until I graduate to to be able make payments or if it's possible (or if there are any conseqences) to make payments when I can while I'm currently attending school?

Thank you.
