Federer, Roddick, Sharapova and Wozniacki to feature at 2012 Tennis Night in America – Tennis News
Mega night is at the disposal of tennis fanatics in New York as four tennis icons will play two exhibition matches and delight the crowd with their appearance and game play. Swiss Maestro, World No.4, Roger Federer, will take on
the local rocket serve master, Andy Roddick in the male category and it will be World No.1, Caroline Wozniacki, locking horns with gorgeous Russian, World No.4, Maria Sharapova, in the female category.
BNP Paribas Showdown makes its way to Madison Square once again on 5thMarch, 2012. One night event that will feature the above listed couple of matches will attract viewers from different state of America. Almost all
the tickets for the tournament have already been sold and people are eagerly waiting for the event to see their beloved tennis icons in action.
The night will kick-off with both women battling it out to prove their worth and then their match will be followed by two great legends of tennis, Federer and Roddick. Both matches will be three sets apiece. Sharapova showed her
delight for playing in such a magnificent sporting arena and said “Playing in Madison Square Garden has always been a dream of mine. Everyone wants to play there at least once in their career. I look forward to coming back to New York for the Showdown."
Roddick said “I have never had a chance to play at the Garden before and to play Roger there will make it a special night. I am really looking forward to a great event."
Federer and Roddick faced rivalry is very old and of their best matches include the final of Wimbledon 2009 when Swiss defeated the American in an enthralling three-setter clinching his 15th Grand Slam title of his career.
Federer maintains an emphatic 22-3 win-loss record against the American tennis ace.
The other two contestants Wozniacki and Sharapova have faced each other for seven times to date and Russian tennis icon leads the head-to-head score with 5-2.
Madison Square Garden is one of oldest arenas that have featured sporting events for over 80 years now. The men’s and women’s yea-end tour championships took place at The Garden from 1977-1989 and 1979 - 2000 respectively.
This tournament will be telecasted all across the globe and viewers from all over the world are eagerly waiting for this tournament and want the old long reigned rivalries to heat up once again at Madison Square Garden. It will
be a very interesting battle considering the fact that all players have had intense battles in past and would like to repeat the heroics once again.
