  1. Hey an Olympic gold medal is an Olympic gold medal.  Fed is an Olympic champion and from the looks on his face he is over it that singles loss.  He's ecstatic.  I'm so happy for him.  He was actually happy for Blake but of course that was for nothing.

I think it's obvious that he really wanted to represent his country.  You can see the tears come while he was on the podium.  I think this win is a monkey off of his back and I think the old Fed will be back..maybe not crush the competition but I think he's coming back.  This is exactly what he needed...a surprising gold medal in doubles.

  2. Federer wanted an olympic medal and he got one in a totally unexpected event. heck...he's an Olympian now.

I also think the way he played in the doubles when there was no pressure shows that once he sorts out his issues, he ll be back to his best in singles. I think the poor chap needed something worthwhile this year after this dreadful year.

  3. no i dont hink soo. cause he's just become no.2 and if he gets out at the 3rd or 4th round . who knows till where he can be in the u.s open!!!but im a fan of djokovic and im sure that he can now beet federer

  4. Haha. Yeah, poor Roger! It's nice to see him smiling. Congrats to them.

  5. It is great to win a gold medal for doubles but IMO nothing can compare to winning it for a singles competition

  6. he did? nice

no it will never replace the single lost

  7. Congratulations to Roger and Stan. I never thought they`d win gold simply because there single players and they`ve taken out the ``real`` doubles players. But yeah they`ve done their country proud and Roger wont feel to disappointed now at least he is walking away with a meda at the Olympics this year. Imagine Fed just started to become a doubles player?! haha That would never happen, just hypothetically, that would be very very weird!!!  It is nice to see him celebrate for a change, he`s very proud of his country. Poor James Blake :( Novak beat him, which was suspected, it wasnt really a surprise, but James could have clinched that tiebreak!!! In fact it doesnt really matter anyway because Blake should have been in the final :( wtf was the umpire playing at?! Wasnt he watching the match!!!!

  8. Doubles or singles - He won GOLD! He really needed a major victory at this point of his career and he should be really proud of himself! Congratulations to him! :D But since he's a SINGLES player and not doubles, the loss to Blake probably still hurts him.

  9. Of course not. i am certain he's bleeding inside...

  10. No, a doubles gold would never replace an olympic medal in singles, especially for a player of Federer's pedigree. He really wanted his first major title of the year while he was still no.1. His win today is a small consolation, however.

  11. Yes, I think it will replace the gold for the singles. Just look at Federer's expression on his face..... he is so happy to have won his dream medal.

  12. 1 BETTER THAN ZERO....in single game now anyone can beat roger but now he took the double gold..nothing to complain about it...i think roger will really satisfy for it.....as a fan...i'm more happy than my  country malaysia take the first gold in history......roger still my old roger..the best tennis player

  13. No, which is a shame.

But it is kind of a ***** slap to him, that this is Rafa's first Olympics and has made it to within 1 match of Gold, whereas Federer has tried over 3 Olympics and still couldn't get the Singles.

At least he's got a good career title for the Swiss!

  14. sure a gold is a gold and don't forget it is an Olympic medal which isn't only aa self honour but an honour for his country as well that's why he looked so happy today

  15. It was never about singles or doubles IMO. All Roger stated (and I might be wrong) was that he wanted to win gold for his country. Everyone simply assumed it was in the singles.

Watching his doubles match after losing to Blake, the first thing I noticed was how relaxed he was. That relaxation got him to gold in the doubles. Now that he is no longer #1, maybe he can finally relax and simply play tennis.

BTW, apparently before he decided to solely focus on singles, he was a very good doubles player---at least according to those who called the match on tv.

No question, he thoroughly enjoyed the win. Through out the match, his passion was evident. He simply needs to show more passion in the singles---let it out! He did it before he became #1and now he needs to let flow instead of letting it churn inside.

I am a Nadal fan who is so glad that Federer finally brought the gold home in whatever form!

  16. It probably takes the sting away just a bit. To beat the Bryans is no easy task, so he has to have a boost of confidence !!!!
