Federer ready to roll the dice again at U.S. Open
The Swiss player is in full action to prove himself as he has nothing to lose now. Roger Federer has once again re-established himself as a major seed for the U.S. Open with his latest trophy at the Cincinnati Masters. He is more than ready to raise the graph and to bid for a fifth U.S. Open title next week at New York.
It has been more than a year when Federer won the French Open and broke the record of Pete Sampra in the grand slam men’s singles titles. Many questions arose regarding his motivation when he lost the last year’s U.S. Open to Juan Martin Del Potro but Federer answered them in a very emphatic way after winning this year’s Australian Open. This year was not that good for Federer as he lost his grip over the No.1 seed for the U.S. Open. It’s now been heard that Federer is at present playing with his house’s money in casino Parlance. He has also failed to succeed in 16 grand slam titles. He was not in action in the quarter-finals of the French Open which ended his sequence of 23 consecutive grand slam semi-final appearances. Similarly, he lost in the quarter–finals at Wimbledon, marking as his one of the most unthinkable performance at the All-England club final since 2002.
Two weeks ago, Federer also lost to Andy Murray in the final of the Toronto Masters. But this 29-year-old remained unfazed, hiding all his emotions behind his calm face until last weekend when he won the Australian Open which was his last title success this year. Federer is a man who creates opportunities. Regarding U.S. Open he said, “I guess the top four have the best shot again, naturally. We can play really well on the hard courts. Andrew Murray has proven himself, so have Novak Djokovic and Rafa (Rafael Nadal).” He added, “U.S. Open might be a bit faster, so you figure Rafael Nadal will struggle a bit more. But if the draw goes his way, he’ll be in the finals and have a crack to the title, too. He knows how to win slams. He’s won all the other ones.”
Roger Federer termed the upcoming U.S. Open “an interesting one”. “Many guys are playing well again. Murray didn’t win a tournament for a long time, and he’s been able to win Toronto again. So that definitely puts him as one of the favorites as well”. He remarked. All in a sudden the decline of Federer appears to disappear as he heads towards the U.S. Open brimful of confidence. He said, “I know the rules and how they work”. Federer has won the men’s singles title five times.
It was being expected that the Argentine will lead the new generation but due to injuries, he will not be able to defend his title in New York this year. With this, Rafael Nadal, Andrew Murray and Novak Djokovic are Federer’s most likely threats. Nadal has been declared the best seed for the U.S. Open by USTA. Many experts are saying that it is possible that Nadal will be the top threat and competitor for Federer and we also can’t ignore the Serbian Djokovic who won the grand slam singles title during the 2008 Australia Open by beating Federer.
But still, everyone’s eyes are on Federer whose life has been in full circles since his coming to the United States but there is no doubt that he seems to be eager and in action now. Federer will definitely benefit from the restless preparations for the U.S. Open and hopefully, this weary bodied and clear minded person will make it to the finals this year.
