“Federer will win at least one or two more titles” -Nick Bollettieri
The American tennis coach Nick Bollettieri could put on the appearance of an arrogant man and possibly, he does. The orange tan is the characteristic of the Florida sun marginally dimming the expression. For a man with more than thirty years of coaching history behind him and who is ranked among the list of tennis champions among his ex pupils, being right all the time, after some time, may misses its attraction.
While most experts start discussing about Roger Federer's declining ambiance just after his astonishing, exile by Tomas Berdych in the quarterfinal stage at the grass court Grand Slam tournament recently, Bollettieri had already observed some flaws in the Swiss tennis master’s game of tennis.
With a total of sixteen Grand Slam titles to his name, Federer definitely hadn't blotted out how to triumph in a tennis match but what he apparently looked to forget, in the view of the tennis expert, was that 'he's the greatest player'.
"Is the conclusion of the Federer period near? Actually, it is going to be quite exciting as there are up to ten players that can knock him down or believe that they can defeat the big man, Roger Federer. However, about some six months ago, no one actually imagined that he could hammer him down, that terror basically gave him a benefit.
“Players not any more are scared of him," was Bollettieri's conclusion of the dilemma that the big man finds himself in.
The path ahead of Roger Federer is certainly not that smooth but it won’t be difficult either if the big man manages to tackle the situation intelligently, as there is no question as far as his game and technique is concerned.
“He simply needs to keep himself physically fit in order to destroy the imagination of young slot”, as said by Bollettieri.
"Federer is required to be 100 percent fit in terms of his health. If his fitness becomes a problem like it happened at the grass court Grand Slam tournament in the recent past then he will be in a major fuss for sure. The reason behind it is that, he is already not in a very good form to smash a ball, all he can do at the moment is to simply slice a tennis ball which is not a healthy sign at all”, he added.
Furthering commenting on the big man’s present state of the game, Bollettieri added that, a number of tennis players as well as sports experts are still wondering whether Federer has lost his flair and charm. According to Bolletieri, the big man will at least win another one or two Grand Slam trophies for sure. Anyhow, if he doesn’t manage to gain either the next year Australian Open or the upcoming United States Open championship, he may possibly start to suspect his own tennis flair.
He further commented that Rafael Nadal, will dominate the next couple of years in the world of tennis in the real sense of term, as he is just twenty four years of age and is capable of playing on all kinds of surfaces provided that he stays fit. However, at the moment Roger is definitely not gone. Although, he has lost his confidence as a result of early exits from the last two Grand Slam tournaments, but the man still got the flair to come back strongly beyond any doubt.
The only difference is that now fans are going to be looking wrathfully, at whether he can still gain a few more Grand Slam titles or not.
Anyhow, Roger Federer remains Bollettieri's description of an ideal player.
"No one is perfect but he is extremely close to being the one. We have the Lavers and Samprases but Federer is truly an ideal player or very near”
The man respects the game of tennis like an ideal player does, loves it as well as lives for it. Federer also serves as a role model for the upcoming young tennis players and in short encompasses almost all the qualities of an ideal sportsman in the modern era.
