Federica Pellegrini captures Women’s 200m freestyle gold: Day six – European LC Championships
Federica Pellegrini of Italy pocketed gold medal of the Women’s 200m freestyle on day six of the ongoing European Long Course Championships in Debrecen, Hungary on Saturday, May 26.
Pellegrini demonstrated her stupendous efforts in the four-lap freestyle event and sprinted her way towards the finishing end for gold medal.
With her immaculate pace, she remained considerably faster from her closest swimmers and hit the finishing wall for gold medal by producing a time of 1 minute and 56.76 seconds.
The gold medallist was chased by Silke Lippok of Germany, who suffered a deficit of almost 1.50 seconds and posted a time of 1 minute and 58.19 seconds for silver medal.
Similarly, Lippok enjoyed a lead of 0.04 seconds over her strongest challenger, Ophelie Cyrielle Etienne of France, who proved her mettle for bronze medal of the discipline by clocking a time of 1 minute and 58.23 seconds.
Fourth best finishing spot of the race was secured by Alice Mizzau of Italy, who stayed only 0.16 seconds slower from the third position holder and touched the wall with the timing of 1 minute and 58.39 seconds.
Mizzau was chased by Sara Isakovic of Slovenia, who remained 0.51 seconds apart and finished fifth in the discipline by reporting a time of 1 minute and 58.90 seconds.
Meanwhile, the crowd witnessed gruelling efforts of Spain’s Mercedes Peris Minguet in the playoff of Women’s 50m backstroke.
Peris Minguet stifled hopes of her supporters by clinching gold medal of the discipline with the timing of 28.25 seconds.
With her splendid efforts, she remained 0.06 seconds ahead of Italy’s Arianna Barbieri and Sanja Jovanovic of Croatia, who secured silver medal of the event by reaching the finishing wall with the same timing of 28.31 seconds.
The pair was chased by Jenny Mensing of Germany, who occupied fifth position of the discipline by submitting an effort of 28.36 seconds.
The audience appreciated stupendous efforts of all participants in their respective events while the position holders received medals and accolades for their notable efforts at the prize ceremony. Furthermore, the session completed after the conclusion of all scheduled events.
