Federica Pellegrini seizes Women’s 400m freestyle title: Day one: 2012 Sette Colli Meet, Italy
Olympic champion, Federica Pellegrini seized gold medal of the Women’s 400m freestyle on first day of the 2012 Sette Colli Meet in Rome, Italy on Thursday, June 14.
The 23-year-old Pellegrini demonstrated here astonishing efforts in the mediocre distance freestyle event and upset her challengers by snaring golf medal of the discipline.
With her astounding pace and commendable start, Pellegrini remained just one stroke faster from her following swimmer and made her way to the finishing end with the timing of 4 minutes and 06.03 seconds.
The gold medallist was chased by Lotte Friis of Denmark, who stayed 0.12 seconds apart and hit the finishing end with the timing of 4 minutes and 06.15 seconds for silver medal.
Similarly, third position of the discipline was secured by Martina De Memme of Italy, who stayed almost three seconds apart and posted a time of 4 minutes and 09.55 seconds for bronze medal.
The third position holder was chased by Elena Sokolova of Russia, who stayed 0.16 seconds apart and settled on the finishing end as fourth best swimmer with the timing of 4 minutes and 09.71 seconds.
Following that, the audience witnessed forceful efforts of South Africa’s Wendy Trott, who stayed 0.39 seconds apart and cruised her way to the medal rostrum as fifth best finisher by submitting an effort of 4 minutes and 10.10 seconds.
Trott was chased by Diletta Carli of Italy, who remained 0.83 seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and posted a time of 4 minutes and 10.93 seconds for sixth position.
Seventh position of the discipline was secured by Carli’s teammate, Alessia Filippi, who remained almost three seconds behind and clocked an effort of 4 minutes and 13.94 seconds.
Last finisher of the session was Pernille Blume of Denmark, who remained almost nine seconds behind and transpired on the finishing end with the timing of 4 minutes and 22.71 seconds for eighth position.
The position holders raked medals for their invincible efforts in the 400m event at the medal distribution ceremony of the championship, while the championship will conclude after the completion of all listed events.
