The AS Roma defender has stated that the opportunity to raise his daughter in Rome, along with the good rapport with Walter Sabatini inclined him to join the capital outfit.

The Italian international had voiced his desire to move to the Parisians as that would allow him to join his family in Paris, but in the end chose to sign with the Giallorossi in a recent summer move.
Balzaretti admitted that his choice of AS Roma had a lot to do with his family, and stated that he sees Rome as a good place to raise his daughter.

The former Juventus-man went on to sideline all notions that he came to AS Roma to avoid European football, and insisted that the idea is absurd considering the fact that it is the club’s objective to qualify for UEFA Champions League in the upcoming season.
While talking to the press, the 30-year-old said:
“Were there external factors? The family situation has led me to want to raise my daughters in Rome, which is a beautiful city. The relationship with sporting director Walter Sabatini also influenced matters and we know that we work to common ideas since
our time together at Palermo. But it is not true that I chose Roma because they are not in Europe, seeing as one of our goals is to return there.”
Balzaretti went on to reveal that while he had a chance to move to Paris Saint-Germain in the previous year, there was never anything concrete this time around that could have allowed him to move to the French capital.
“I knew I was not going to PSG since January. There was never a real possibility from there.”
