Federico Delbonis battled past Javier Marti in the first round – Madrid Challenger 2012 
Eighth seeded, Federico Delbonis, outgunned the local contender, Javier Marti, marking a 7-5, 3-6, 6-1 triumph in the first round of the Madrid Challenger held at Spain. The duo concluded the set in one hours and 48 minutes after a tough battle on the eve of Tuesday.
The 20-year-old Marti held his initial serve in the opener but was unable to secure any lead. Delbonis broke his serve in the third game and marked his 2-1 lead. Correspondingly, the local challenger busted his rival’s serve in the fourth game, bringing the score line to 2-all. Despite of the local challenger’s tireless efforts, he was unable to prevail over his competitor. Marti started to gain momentum towards the conclusion of the set and ruined the Argentinean’s serve to bring the scores to 5-all. In the very next game, Delbonis jumped forward and clinched the last two games, clinching the opener with a 7-5 lead.  
The right-hander Spaniard had a higher initial serve accuracy of 71 percent, bagging 16 of 24 first but only two of 10 second serve points. His opponent manifested 50 percent serve presenting, pocketing away eight of 17 first and 11 of 17 second delivery points. He received four serve breaks and he just capitalized on three.
The world number 198, Marti, displayed the same determination to outdo his rival and responded  with his powerful strikes. For the initial part of the second set, the scores evened out to 2-2 in the fourth and 3-3 in the sixth game. Nevertheless, as time kicked forward Delbonis was unable to sustain his former lead and lost the set with a 3-6 score.
Ranked 137th in the ATP World Tour Rankings, Delbonis had an average initial serve precision and bagged nine of 12 points on it. Marti had 55 percent initial serve precision with 11 of 16 first and seven of 13 second delivery points.
In the decider the 21-year-old Argentinean broke his challengers initial serve and took hold of the opportunity to snatch the initial three games in a row. Marti’s pace gradually died down and he was unable to withstand the pressure. Then Delbonis grabbed the last three games without any resistance, stamping a 6-1 win.
For the next match of the ATP Challenger the Argentinean will again contest against the Spanish Ivan Navarro
