Federico Delbonis downs Nicolas Devilder to enter the main draw – Grand Prix Hassan II 2012
Qualifying fifth seed, Federico Delbonis, stomped over the French contestant, Nicolas Devilder, in straight sets at the Grand Prix Hassan II 2012 on Monday. He summed up a 6-2, 6-3 victory against the world number 283 to advance into the main draw at this
clay court event held in Casablanca, Morocco.
Delbonis took down the 32-year-old after cashing in half of the six break opportunities in 70 minutes. After earning the limelight, the Argentinean convincingly booked a spot in the opening round at this ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) World Tour
250 series event.
Ranked 147th in the South African Airways ATP World Tour Rankings, Delbonis high-spiritedly stepped on the Moroccan clay courts and held his serve to love in the opening game. He drew the first blood in the fourth game and cruised to a 4-1 lead.
Later, the Argentinean held his remaining serves and converted another break chance to his advantage in the last game, ultimately sealing the opener with a 6-2 win.
The left-handed Argentinean carried his momentum into the second set and swiftly plucked entire serves without facing any obstacle. He capitalised on one out of three break opportunities in the fourth game and clinched the set with a 6-3 score line.
Summing up Delbonis performance at this event, the 21-year-old clobbered a better first serve share of 60 per cent as opposed to the French’s 53 per cent and brilliantly clicked 24 out of 28 points on it. He also fired three aces and ended the deal with
61 points.
The Argentinean will face the French star, Jeremy Chardy, in the opening round.
The qualifying sixth seed, Roberto Bautista-Agut, will join Delbonis in the main draw. He eased past his compatriot, Inigo Cervantes, in straight sets in almost one and half hour to progress. The world number 152 brushed off two out of five breakpoints he
encountered and cashed in six out of eight break opportunities to rule the match. He produced a lower first serve share of 48 per cent as compared to his fellow citizen’s 60 per cent and availed 15 out of 24 points on it.
