Federico Macheda expects Wayne Rooney to stay
Manchester United youngster Federico Macheda hopes and prays that English International Wayne Rooney stays at the club, despite of having more opportunities should the star leave Old Trafford.
There is immense trouble at the United camp as Rooney, who is the club’s best player, has expressed his desire to leave the club, with ambition and trophies named the driving force behind such a decision. The striker scored his career best 34 goals last
season, but still couldn’t help the side to their 19th premier league title. The side also failed to do much in Europe, as United crashed out in the quarter finals at the hands of eventual finalist Bayern Munich.
Manchester United were without striker Wayne Rooney and Michael Owen owing to injury for the Champions league. Berbatov and Hernandez were on the bench but it was the Mexican who played final 10 minutes of the match, which opened the door for Federico Macheda
to lead the United attack for entire 90 minutes against Turkish Champions Bursaspor.
However, Macheda was anything but impressive in the match and seemed lost in the entire match. Yet, United manager Sir Alex Ferguson declared it to be some useful experience for the player’s overall development.
Nonetheless, given the current situation of Wayne Rooney with the club, who may have made his final appearance for the club, Macheda would have to step up and deal with the pressure. Macheda would love nothing else but to be the main man for the side, but
would rather prefer Rooney to be around and share the goal load.
"There would be more chances for me if Wayne wasn't here but it is better to have him in the squad. He is a good striker. The squad is stronger with him here", claimed the teenager. These words at least proved that Macheda considered Rooney as a friend and
mentor, and never meant any offence when he labelled the English star as a “chav”.
It is, however, unlikely that there are any chances of Wayne Rooney wanting to heal the difference between himself and United and would be on his way out of Old Trafford during this winter transfer window. Macheda didn’t agree to the comments made by Rooney
regarding the lack of quality in the United squad, and stated that the side had everything for them to win any major trophy. Macheda hailed the quality in the squad and explained that every day, they train to win and nothing less than that.
With Rooney as good as gone from the side, Macheda would have to step up his development and expect much more opportunities, especially in the coming week’s Carling Cup fixture against Wolves.
"Every time the manager chooses me I try to get better. I have been working hard in training every day for the day when I become a real player. It is not easy to play a full 90 minutes in a game like last night's, especially for someone as young as me. But
I got through it and that will help. I wish I had got a goal. Hopefully next time”, claimed the former Lazio academy player.
Manchester United face Stoke City away this weekend and an explosive encounter can be expected. United would be looking for the first away win in the premier league this season and would want to prove the world that United is not a one man club. The side
would have to get used to playing without the services of Wayne Rooney and given the recent form of Nani and Berbatov, winning wouldn’t be an issue.
