Question:

Fedex package went to USPS by mistake?

I gave a prepaid Fedex Ground package to the mailroom at my job to ship. The Fedex online tracking status is no information on this package. I asked the mailroom today and they told me that my package was put into the USPS mail pile by mistake and went to the USPS mail sorting facility. I'm afraid my package will never get to the intended destination because USPS has my package and not Fedex. Has this happened to you before? Any suggestion on what I should do now? Should I file a claim with Fedex?

  1. The post office will notify Fedex that one of their packages is mistakenly at the post office.Fedex will retrieve the package and get it into their system. It will probably be delayed by this.

  2. FedEx will not help you with a claim for an item that is not in their system.  Usually, USPS will hand-off to FedEx, because generally there are boxes in or near their own facility.  this has happened to me in the past and USPS has passed the package along.   You do have a return address on it,  so it might come back to you.   Find out where the sort facility is and call them or go there,  they may be holding it behind the counter.

  3. The mail room should tell the local carrier. I have seen this happen happen before. .  Usually the USPS will take any non USPS packages back to the sender.  Who knows maybe they just put in the Fedex box.

  4. The U. S. Postal Service is nowhere as good

as FedEx or UPS, but they will get it to it's

    destination...eventually...and maybe partly

    broken.

Give the package about 2 weeks for cross country delivery and if it hasn't arrived yet,

then have Postmaster run a tracking check for you.  You have a lousy mail room and someone should be fired for that.
