Fedrick Dacres rocks the IAAF World Athletics Youth Championships in Lille – Athletics news
Fedrick Dacres, the 17-year-old Discus thrower from Jamaica marked his dominance at the IAAF World Youth Championships in Lille by throwing the 1.5kg heavy implement to an impressive 67.05m. The results produced by Dacres proved to be matchless and the athlete
succeeded in bagging the first ever Discus gold for his country at the level he was competing on.
As Dacres unleashed splendid strength behind each throw he made on the track, it appeared that any of his five throws could have easily brought him the desired success. However, building on his dominance over rivals, he claimed the gold medal in the final
round where the Discus thrown by him landed six metres ahead of his competitors.
His performance was indeed marvellous and was regarded as an impressive show in a decades’ time at the junior level. While performing on the field, though Dacres was quite confident of how he was outdoing his rivals, he would not have thought of the fact
that the results being produced by him had also culminated in placing him as the sixth best thrower on the world all-time list for the category he appeared in.
Though it was a stunning performance by the young Jamaican, it was not an unexpected one. Media, along with his spectators were well aware of the results he was already producing before coming to this prestigious athletics event. While he made it to the
top place on the podium, Dacres was well aware of how long his success will contribute in enhancing the morale of the other athletes of his contingent.
Talking about his historic win, the young thrower said, “The first medal or the first gold would really set the pace for the team and motivate everyone else to go out and do what is necessary to medal, or at least make their final, so I’m going out there
to do everything to give us a good start.”
While sharing his thoughts and feelings after a formidable success with a reporter of a leading Jamaican newspaper, Dacres added further, “I’m very proud about my personal bet but I would really love to actually better it at the championships although I’ll
be thankful for a win. My preparation has been going very well, my technique has been coming along very well and my coach has been working closely with me.”
To him, feeling confident about the win even before entering the competition was quite natural. The results proved that his confidence about his game and preparation for the event was not baseless. With Dacres prevailing in the Discus throw after the sprint
competitions, Jamaica has got strong chances of dominating the throwing competitions as well.
