  1. It's sad, isn't it. Poor little whale. Apparently, the biggest problem is that they have nowhere to keep it, even if they wanted to try to hand-rear it.

    I saw a guy from Sea World interviewed, and he said that they would like to care for it, but without a place to keep it, they couldn't do so. He also said that there has been one Humpback Whale hand-reared in the past, in the U.S., but they had the facilities there to keep it.

    I'm disappointed that they aren't making more of an effort to do something for it. Surely it wouldn't be impossible to put some structure in place to keep it in, eg. a large heavy-duty fenced area in the ocean. If they left the yacht there that it thinks is it's mother, it would probably be fairly content. It's probably too late now, though, as the last thing I heard, they had taken it out to sea in the hopes it would find another pod of whales to stay with. Even that won't really help, unless it's lucky enough to be adopted by a whale that already has another calf....pretty darned unlikely, I'd say.

    Anyway, I hope somehow or other it manages to survive.
