Question:

Feeder fish as pets?? ?

I just got 16 feeder fish from a carnival...and I was wondering, I have a tap water conditioner to take out the chlorine and metals from the water, but should I use that for their water? With my last feeder fish, I used fresh bottled water to change his tank, but because I have SOO many now, it would be really expensive to do that. Should I condition their water or just use the sink water as is? THANKS FOR THE HELP!

  1. just use aquarium conditioner

you are so lucky to own an aquarium over 230 gallons

as this is the absolute minimum for 16 feeder fish

but with a tank that size it would be better to get tropical fish

standing the water will only remove chlorine but it will not remove clorimine

  2. feeder fish u can keep as pets and use spring water or use a liquid dechloranizer to remove the nitrates and chlorides and stuff. when using spring water you dont have to add a decloranizer thats if you  want to. dont used distilled it can still have heavy metal in it still. you can also dechloranize the water by letting it sit for 24 hours. goodlcuk!!!

    edit

if you have a feeder fish more like a comet goldfish theyll require a big pond or tank. like a 180 gallon pond. dont put them in a gallon bowl or tank theyll die. use a 55 gallon tank if you have one feeder fish they tend to get big. for tapwater you have to dechloranize it its dangerous to fish because it has soooo many heavy toxins and metals in it.

  3. Well first could you tell us the size of your tank that you plan to put all these fish in? I will tell you, there is a reason they are called "feeder" fish, and are only a dime each. They are great for ponds, but don't do as well in fish tanks. But yeah use the conditioner. Sink water has harmful chlorine in it which kills fish.

  4. you can use normal sink water if you add some type of dechlorinater that also removes heavy metals that are dangerous to fish, use it everytime you do water chabges. good luck!

  5. using water conditioner is just fine. Don't just put the tap water in there, use the conditioner.

  6. I would just use tap water, but put in in old spring water jugs and let it sit for 24 hrs before using it for your fish.  This time will allow the water to naturally declorinize the water.  And it's free.  Hope this helps.
