Feeder fish pet care ?

I have two little feeder fish (little common gold fish) in a one gallon tank with a air pump. I heard they live up to 20 years and they get like 6 inches long. I have a couple of questions.

How long till they reach an adult size ? Right now they are like 1 and 1/2 inches long.

What kind of food should I feed them and how often?

I will probably have to get a bigger tank for them, but like when will it

become mandatory to get a bigger tank? I have a fountain with a pump outside that I think I can put them in when they are bigger.

How often should I clean their tanks ?

  1. Common goldfish, yes they can live for up to 20 years. But expect them to reach 12-18" long eventually.

Really a 1 gal tank is too small for ANY goldfish. Right now they could live in a 10gal, for a while. But eventually they are going to want a 50gal, but it will take them 2 or 3 years to get that big

In a 1gal tank you are really going to have to change the water every couple of days, treat it like a bowl. You have a very small amount of water and no real filtering to process their waste.

I know they are only small and cheap fihs, but they do get BIG.

For a pond you will want a couple of hundred gallons of water for them.

Edit: they dont need a 70gal tank NOW, they are 2 tiny little fish. They can grow up through several tank upgrades with no problems. But they may end up in a 70 gal tank eventually.

  2. get them a 70+ gallon tank  NOW before they become stunted and die
