  1. Okay this is straight from my teacher at VET SCHOOL, my teacher is a VET!

Feed them commercial pet store food.  Kaytee brand lab blocks is what I feed my rats, it is a balanced diet, and it is easy to give.  Do not feed them anything but rat food, if it was meant for rats it would say "For rats" on the bag.  Do not feed them people food unless it is a treat, you do not have the education or training to make them a balanced diet.

Go to the store, buy lab blocks for rats.  Its that easy.

  2. They should eat food formulated for rats. Regal Rat is a great brand, and so is Mazuri lab blocks.

My 4 rats are on a mixture of the two above foods.

  3. -try basic hamster food. crackers, fruit, carrots.anything like that should be fine to feed them.

plus they are all very tasty!

    hope i helped!!!

  4. Debbie the rat lady as other breeders sometimes make there own rat mixes because they feel it is healther. The lab blocks that they make for rats are what you should feed them. They have all the vitamins and minerals and protiens and everything a rat needs for a healthy life. You also along with the rat lab blocks should add fruits and vegetables.

  5. make a homemade mix.

  6. they can eat guinea pig food...but it's best to stay away from wheat and stuff like that.

I feed my rats Oxbow Regal Rat and they are completely healthy on it. There's no questionable ingrediants or anything.

Just make sure the protien level is low since rats are prone to tumors and cancer

  7. you can feed it guinne pig food

  8. i feed him fruits and vegatables like corn, broccali, peas, macoroni, lettuce, carrots and other stuff like that.   hope that helped  :)

  9. Feed them any food for rats.. but stay away from rat food with lots of small seeds and/or alfalfa.. they don't eat that stuff and it's a waste. They can also eat anything they would be able to find in the wild.

  10. Guinea pig food is for guinea pigs and will not provide adequate nutrition for rats. You need a food made for rats. This is still no easy task because most pet store rat foods are absolute c**p. Someone recommended Kaytee rat food in the answers... AVOID Kaytee at all costs. It's one of the worst rat diets put out there. Kaytee includes a dangerous preservative called ethoxyquin in their diets.

The people who recommended Regal Rat get a thumbs up from me. I have a page on good rat diets that might be helpful to you: http://www.petinfopackets.com/rats/ratfe...
