so i just got some baby lionhead rabbits (oh-so-cute!!) and the people who we got them of said that they couldnt eat grass/greens until they were 6 months old or it could kill them. I was just wondering if it was true or not, cuz theses rabbits are only 6 weeks. and ive checked the internet and some sites say its ok to feed them grass/greens but others say its not??

  1. I only feed my rabbits pellets and timothy hay and they very healthy and have beautiful, shiny coats.

  2. i've got 3 rabbits and i got all of them at about 10weeks old and we gave it cabage and it's hutch is fixed so they can go out side on the grass and i've had 2 of them for 5years now and they are really healthy and noting has ever been wrong with them and my other one is 16weeks old and shes fine. so it has'nt ever done any damage to my rabbits or any body else i know. but what ever you do don't give it lettuce, it tends to dope them(make them sleepy) i fed mine that for a week not knowing and it just got a bit dopy but it's fine now, just dont want that to happen to you cause it can ceriusly heart them. i have 3 dutch rabbits. one of mine is pregnant and it's my first time breeding them. hope i've been a bit of help.

  3. It is true. No treats at all until 6 months.

  4. It is untrue, my babies all got out into a run on the grass as soon as they were old enough and if it wasnt the weather to be out they got a selection of fresh greens, you have to be careful of the quantity though, they should only get a tiny amount per day.  Cabbage can give them an upset stomach and cause diarreah but they love it and is fine in small doses, iceberg lettuce can cause liver failure and should not be given at all.  I normally fed mine on chopped apple, tomato, cucumber and spinach.  When they reach six months you dont have to worry about quantities so much although they still should not be given more than a handful of fresh food each per day.

  5. You can slowly introduce greens at 3-4 months, then start feeding them more at 5-6 months.

  6. Well, I've just recently got a baby rabbit myself, and I'd say it was about 9-10 weeks old, well maybe even younger, anyway we have a rabbit run and we let her run around in it on the grass, she eats some of the grass and no harm has come to her, so I don't really think it's true because she would eat grass in the wild from a very young age anyway, but don't let them eat too much grass, if you notice they have diarea (or however you spell it) stop letting them eat greens, and lay off the vedge (You shouldn't really be feeding them fruit and vedge anyway, it's probably in their rabbit food and too much is bad for them)! If the diarea carrys on, then take them to a vet, it could be serious! I hope I've helped!

  7. It is true that you should not feed baby rabbits any kind of treat (pineapple, oats, etc.)  However, you should never feed rabbits of any age a lot of vegetables.  A rabbit's digestive system is very delicate and cannot handle a lot of watery food.  If you feed them vegetables more than just once in awhile, then your rabbit will come down with chronic diarrhea and it will seriously damage their digestive system.  So just stay away from veggies and fruits.  The only thing I would suggest is a little pineapple (in five months) because it breaks up hairballs and allows rabbits to pass them.  Good luck.
