so i've read online that when you feed your gecko you need to coat the crickets (or whatever) in calcium powder (which i do at the moment for my leo) but i've also read that you should just put the container of calcium in the tank with the gecko so it can get it whenever needed...which is the right one. Should i stick to what im doing or just put the calcium in...or both ???

  1. Make sure you follow the directions on the calcium! They also like to eat wax worms. Mine eats those as a treat when we first  adopted him he wouldnt eat anything so we gave him wax worms and now he eats those and crickets.

  2. keep on powdering the crickets. and yes its extremely important that you leave some calcium in a bowl in the tank at all times! you don't have to put in the whole container though.

  3. they actually eat white castle

  4. You should continue the way you do.you can also put a calcium container in the tank but it's not all leopard geckos that will eat calcium directly in the container.my husband and i have 18 leopard geckos and we only saw one who eat calcium in his container.and calcium is very important to their bones. What we also do is that we put meal worms in the small calcium container in the tank of ours geckos so when they eat worms they also get some calcium.

  5. The critical thing is that leopard geckos need calcium supplements. Either method you mention will work. You don't need to do both. Most lizards (like bearded dragons) will not lap up calcium on their own, so owners have no choice but to powder the crickets. Leopard geckos will find and l**k a small pile of calcium by themselves, so you have the choice.

There is a book called "The Leopard Gecko Manual" that retails for about $11. Its a great resource that I still check occasionally.

If the leopard gecko is a baby though, please do coat the crickets.... I've had babies end up with a calcium deficiency. It was very sad, their front legs especially are very deformed.

  6. Do both, this will give your gecko an option to self regulate if the calcium provided on the crickets is not sufficent.

In response to the above answer, wax worms should only ever be a treat, a max of 2 a week due to the fact that they can be highly addictive and are very fattening. They also do not possess any significant nutritional value.
