Feeding rats chicken bones?

I heard about this somewhere. Is it true that they enjoy them? Is it safe?

  1. You can feed them chicken bones but I would keep a close eye on them. Rats teeth are so razor sharp when they chew them up they splinter them. In my experience I have given them to my girls and have never had problems. They love them. I did ask my vet before I gave it too them but she told me to go for it.  


  2. In the wild rodents chew on skeletons, so why not in the home? It's a good source of calcium.  

  3. I have never had a problem giving mine chicken bones. Unlike dogs, rats gnaw on the bones(not crunch/chew them), so there is no risk of splintering and choking.


  4. General consensus says that cooked chicken bones are safe, because the rats just sort of crunch them up. There are still some who choose not to give their rats bones, though, just in case of splintering. But most consider it safe to give them. So it's really up to you.

  5. no no NOOOO! NO BONES! EVER! THEY CAN SPLINTER AND LEAD TO CHOKING AND DEATH!!!
