I have an old female Boxer and she has only eaten Science Diet (Mature) aside from the rare rice and vegetables....(About 1 cup altogether) Roughly about once every 2 months.....she loves it and was wondering how I can make it so it's totally healthy and fine for her....should I throw in some chicken, too?

  1. White rice is okay for your dog, but brown rice would be better. Also try to keep rice to a min. I would focus on more vegetables.  You can give your dog carrots, green beans, sweet potatoes, and a lot of others just these are what my four dogs like the best. Just do not add onions to this mixture. Also any grape or raisin shouldn't be fed to your dog ever. I think it sounds like a fantastic idea to add chicken! My tip would be to bake plain chicken in the oven, and then add it to the rice and veggies. You can add olive oil as well, it is good for their skin and coat. Just do not add salt to the dog food. Good luck! Just remember to feed in moderation!

  2. You can pretty much feed them any vegetable, but apparently you aren't supposed to feed your dogs onion or garlic.

  3. Just stay away from Grapes or Onions.

Things dogs tend to like are sweet bell peppers (Orange or red) and carrots.

  4. DONT FEED A DOG RICE

    That is abuse

  5. I believe brown rice owuld be better, make sure its cooked well and all. Chicken is fine too, just don't bother spicing it. Beef should also be fine. One thing: if you spoil your dog with real food too often, she may stop eating dog food. So what you can do is kinda do half and half. Mix the dog food with her rice and veggies or whatever now and then.

  6. rice and veggies are great for any dog's diet.  brown rice may be better, or a mix of rices with peas, carrots, and other kinds of veggies.

you can go online, and find lots of great recipes for dogs.

chicken is a great thing to throw in, just don't give the bones. they are not good for dogs.  and broth is bonus!!

  8. Dogs are primarily carnivores however they can do pretty well on a vegetarian diet as long as it is high in protein. One way to achieve this is with lentils, beans and legumes. In fact, the second oldest dog to ever live was fed a vegetarian diet - link below.

Rice is fine, but make sure there is less rice than meat/beans. It would be great if you can throw in some chicken.

In fact, a home made meal is often better and healthier for dogs as there are none of that preservatives and other chemicals in commercial dog foods that can cause cancer and other health problems in dogs.

Since rice and carbohydrates are not a common food in dog diets, you should make sure not to add too much rice in the diet as it'll lead to obesity.

  9. DOGS ARE CARNIVOROUS animals which means they are meat eaters.

  10. white rice is perfectly fine for a dog, and almost any vegetable is okb but stay well away from onions and although not a vegetable sultanas both are highly toxic to dogs.Small amounts of garlic can be added to the dogs dinner (some believe this is a natural way of preventing fleas. You can include chicken as a dog needs meat to survive since they are actually carnivores.
