  1. yes

  2. I know "BOSS" Black Oil Sunflower Seeds are used as a supplement to put weight on a horse as well as give a nice shiny coat.  Some older horses may not be able to chew them properly but about a 1/2 cup either added to grain or fed by hand as a treat has been used by someone I know that had a rescue that needed some extra help.

Yes, that's them Black OIL Sunflower Seeds...not sure if the ones for birds might cause "wings" as a result of feeding..maybe that is what was fed to Pegasus!!  Just kidd'in!!  lol

  3. No research supports feeding sunflower seeds. Omega 6 is not required by horses and is of no benefit to them.  Any claims have not been substantiated, and if you are feeding them with the hulls intact, they are not digested and can lead to the development of stones in the intestine.  There is no basis for giving these to your horses...stick with what has been established as safe and beneficial by legitimate studies.  And posting sites sponsored by companies that profit from selling these things is not doing the horse any good.  You should find legitimate information to verify safety and value before you feed it to your horse.

No, it won't do what the already tested and proven products do....but it will give you one more way to throw away money to try to make your horse fat.....not healthy....just fat.

  4. some people put up to a half cup in feed every day in order to make the horses coat brighter and to add shine, but make sure you use ones WITH the black shells.. because that's what provides the shine.

they cannot be use to replace feed, only as a supplement.

i give them to my horse in hand fulls as a healthy treat and he LOVES them!

EDIT: yep! i buy them at home depot in the HUGE bag (to keep at home) , and then fill up a gallon sized zip-lock bag i keep at the barn...

and i dunno about helping hooves, its never been a concern of mine since my guy has good feet and a great farrier!

though, i can't see it hurting, and generally things that help the coat help the hooves!
