  1. just keep offering it up to him and eventually he'll get interseted.

  2. I have owned savanna monitors for about ten years now and cant really say ive every had any problems with feeding they are usually pretty farocious when it comes to food. Monitors will eat almost anything, but that doesnt mean give them anything, i like to use foods with high protiens, mine have always loved wet cat food (sea food flavor) it has a strong odor that usually gets them right on it. I find its good to give them a variety of foods such as hard boiled egg whites cat food (wet) crickets and other invertabrits and ofcorse pinkys mice and rats when there full grown they are always the favorite. Good luck i dont think you have much to worry about and good choice on the savanna they are awesome monitors.

  3. get some tongs and move it around like a cricket he may be interested

  4. They can be fussy as babies.  Give him time and keep offering a variety of food items.  Here's a good care sheet with some ideas:

  5. why mess with what works? if hes eating crickets don't fix what ain't broke. as he gets older feed bigger bugs and add mice. also savannas eat almost exclusively snakes in the wild  when it comes to larger prey plus ALOT of insects. mice and bugs are as close to that as we can get to that diet realistically.

  6. They come from the dry savannas of Africa, shrimp isn't on the menu (no sea food around there).

Savannah monitors eat vertebrates and invertebrates. You should be feeding it insects (crickets, meal worms, wax worms, and such) and mice of an appropriate size for it, probably pinky mice if it's a baby. They'll generally eat anything that moves if they can swallow it.

"Warning" they'll also eat smaller reptiles.
