Today we had an exam (chemistry) and it was in two parts. The teacher who is very unorganized had a desk with the second part of it on a table along with a bunch of other papers we were to pick up when we were done. Well one of the top papers got thrown over one of the two sheets of the second part. Well I didnt get that one not knowing there was two, the one I missed had all the formulas on it. It was our first test he said he would give us the formulas and the one I had had a couple so I thought that was it. I asked him when time was up how we were supposed to do the problems with the formulas he gave. Then he uncovers that sheet buried, I asked if I could take it to the learning center and actually do it now that I knew that there was another sheet. He said no, it would be unfair. Im guessing a got maybe a 60% on this test that would easily got a 100 on with that sheet. Is there anyone I can take this too, or should I just get over it and try to make up for it

  1. You should not have to suffer for his being unorganized.  I would go back and talk to him again.  Let him know exactly what happened and that you would be glad to take another test in front of him after hours.  If he says no then you need to take it higher up if you feel you are going to have problems in his class.

  2. You probably should have asked for the formula sheet before you were finished. I don't see why you couldn't have retaken it right then, but every person is different. I say just move on.

  3. get over it

  4. I think at this point it's best to make a written record of what occurred and save it for later use if needed.  Let me explain.  You don't mention if this is high school or college, but the bottom line is you sound like you can still get an A in this class.  If you do, you won't have any need for your written record.  But let's say you get a B or lower... for the sake of argument.  You could successfully argue your case before the principal (I'd have my parents there) or college dean (you're on your own) about the mix-up on that first test due to the disorganization of the teacher.  You can show your maturity by saying you made a written record of the event, hoping that you would not need it.  But you can now say you have little choice but to come forward because your current grade has lowered your GPA and is not a truly accurate assessment of your abilities; you might mention your grade is more a reflection of your teacher's disorganization.
