I'm a sophmore in high school, and I feel like everyones pressuring me to do a sport. I play soccer from age 7 to 14, and I just got sick of it. My two best friends who have done NOTHING for years, joined field hockey last year, and field hockey will accept almost anyone, so they keep bugging me to join. I DON'T WANT TO. Even my parents say it whenever it's brought up. "Oh why don't you join field hockey? You'd have fun...your friends do it" I DONT WANT TO. I keep saying "no, I don't want to" and I'm about to snap. They won't leave it alone. My two best friends are also in this stupid police explorers thing that they ddin't even want to do, but one of their dads is a cop and made them, and my parents and them keep bugging me to join. I don't want to. I don't want to join ANYTHING. I have work, I ALWAYS have to fold the laundry, I have homework, and I don't want to have to give up 3 hours of everyday for field hockey, and then more for that other group. Why can' they just accept that I don't want to be part of anything? What do you think of people that don't do sports or any other clubs? I know it seems lazy, and yeah, I am a little lazy, but I should be. I'm ******* 16. I shouldn't need a d**n schedule. I just want to be able to go to school, do my homework, go to work, and have the rest of my time to myself, or to go out on weekends with friends.

  1. I was about to join a sport and during practice we had all summer, everyday I was MISERABLE :[

I just really started to hate the sport and I realized the only reason why I joined was because all of my friends were too, just like you. I wasn't dedicated to the sport which really made me feel bad because the whole team was 100% in love with the sport and was 200% dedicated to it.

I just quit 2 days ago and you know what, I feel totally relieved and happy with my choice. :]

You shouldn't join a sport if you don't like it, you'll just waste your time.. and besides I don't think you want to be in pro field hockey in college, so colleges won't care if you join. (they only care if you're like PRO level in a sport and will play in their team)

Well good luck and just choice what you want. The next time your friends and family question you just tell them it's your life and you know what you're willing to do :]

  2. If you dont like a sport then dont join it. I play soccer too but i am continuing threw highschool and to be honest its not that time consuming because our practice is seventh hour so its not like we stay ater school. Also you should know since you have played soccer that most sports require dedecation and team work. It  wouldnt benefiet you wasting your time on something you dont enjoy and putting a team in jepordy because your lack of enthusiasm.Plus your friends should understand. Sorry but my pet peeve is when there are people on a sports team that just want to make a name 4 thmslves.

  3. that's good, let it out. :)

your parents might want you to do sports for the sole reason of looking good to college admissions peeps. that's why my mom was so intent on getting me on the tennis team. (but in my case, i actually found out tennis was the best sport for me all along. doesn't happen to everyone though...)

in my experience, parents generally only hear their own voices when their teen is yelling and getting upset. try explaining, once more, to your parents exactly what you've told us here. if you're calm and confident about your decision, they'll be more likely to trust you.
