  1. number one you should never ever take yourself off of any meds until you talk with your doctor first!!!! call hin/her asap and talk with them and set up an appointment. Explain to them that this is what you read and do not feel comfortable about it. maybe they can put you on somethinge else or explain this to you. Get back on meds asap!!

believe me when i tell you this. the meds i am on can make me sucicidal if i go off of them. I had a break down because i took myself off of them. I dont want to see anything bad happen because you took yourself off too.

  2. Take any thought about hurting yourself seriously.  I know.  Been there.

For your safety, back away from the computer now and call a crisis line.  There should be one listed in the yellow pages under that category or under "Mental Health".

I am not going to lecture you on not taking any meds.  I have done this myself.  However, stop taking a medication, especially a psych med, can be harmful.  This is particularly true when it needs to be tapered off to avoid any complications.

I don't know much about thioridazine.  There are, though, other very good mood stabilizers out there.

I hope that you have a psychiatrist that you see.  If not, get one.  Only a psychiatrist is trained to prescribe the right meds for an individual.  They will know of any side effects or possible reactions.

I have found that discussing any questions or misunderstanding about a med is really helpful  to my psychiatrist in getting me the right treatment.  I even asked to see the desktop reference that he has to read up on the med that he is wanting to prescribe for me.

Also, I have found that counseling is a big help for me.  It compliments the meds.  Medication can only help so far.  Counseling should be sought whether taking meds or not.

You may not be religious, but for me, talking (praying) to  God the Great Healer and meditaion have been a big boost on getting me on the road to recovery.

You said that you have fears with a side effect of the med you were taking.  You said that  you read it can cause brain shrinkage.  I hate to be rude, but you may not have a brain to shrink if you don't get help now.  :-)

God bless.  I will keep you in my prayers.  Go with the grace of God.
