Feeling a little nervous about a business trip?

So I work in marketing and I've been helping to plan a golf event. This is a "men's only" event...they chose not to invite any women so it will be 20 men...all high executives ect. However my boss wants me to attend all 3 days. I feel kind of uncomfortable, I'll be the only woman, I'm very far from a high executive...I'm only 25...I just dont feel I'm going to fit in. I'm probably being immature about this I just feel it's going to be uncomfortable for me. Does anyone else find the situation weird?

  1. Sounds like your boss is being a bit of a jerk.  He's going to be the only man there with a cute little 25 year old secretary???  Yeah, being a bit of a pig.  I'd say pay him back by being utterly professional to him but out going and friendly and maybe even a little motherly (oh let me get that for you...how was your dinner?....do you need anything?) with the rest of the group.

  2. Last year, I got invited to ride on the private jet...with 6 different top executives....annnnd I was the only BLACK person.  I was really nervous about that, but I figured if I wasn't doing a good job, and carried myself a certain way, I wouldn't have gotten invited.

THEN I went to the function (that we flew to), there were 250 ppl at this event, and again, I was the only "spot".  I felt good about myself at any rate, and proud that I was invited.  I thought it would be weird, but everyone was really nice.

Be proud of yourself that you were invited and make the most of it!

  3. I think he wants you there in case there are small things that may need a woman's touch. Since you are helping plan it.. you should be there. Just pretend you are one of the guys.

  4. That is a little wierd.  Attend what?  The golf game?  Sit at the club like a sand bunny?  Can you play golf?  Ask the pro to give you some lessons, on the boss's dollar.  What about a day at the spa (on call, but relaxing) being paid while getting a pedicure? (that's if they have those amenities.

Definitely weird.  Is the boss expecting you to be un-entertained and up for inviting single girlfriends to come along, hungry for well paid execs?

    Whoosh.
