Question:

Feeling constant sickness after few days of wisdom teeth extraction

I had 2 wisdom teeth taken out and the first couple days were fine. A little bit of pain and bleeding so I took a couple of the painkillers. The medicine didn't really do anything. On monday, my left jaw started to swell and I took another vicodin pill just for the heck of it. I also ate a big bowl of macoroni and cheese. The rest of the day, I felt like I was going to barf. Same with the next day.

I still feel the same! My eyes are just really sensitive to things like computer and tv monitors. I have some kind of weird headache. I feel really weak. All I want to do is lie down in the dark and sleep. If I do any sort of activity, I feel really sick and I vomit. What do you guys think is wrong with me? I'm not sure if it's a side effect of the wisdom teeth removal or medication. I'm getting sick typing this right now so I'm going to sleep!

  1. God I'm scared. I get mine out in a few weeks.

  2. Well, Vicodin can nauseate some people, especially on an empty stomach.  Some swelling is normal:  are you putting the ice packs and/or bags of frozen peas on your cheek?  And are you eating enough?  Cold is good--softened ice cream, jello, etc.  I'd do a lot of small meals and snacks rather than big meals.

You need to call the oral surgeon to find out if they need to see you, or if you just need a different painkiller.  There are LOTS of good painkillers out there (Lortab etc), and Vicodin may not be it for you.  Call them tomorrow so you can get this taken care of before the weekend.  When you call, be sure to tell them if you're running a temp.  They don't want you throwing up because you could loosen your clots, so they will be very responsive.

I hope it's nothing and that you're feeling better really soon.  Good luck sweetie!

  3. Most likely the medication.  Vicodin may make you drowsy and sick.

But if your jaw is swollen, please call the dentist that extracted the teeth.

It's free for a consultation!  You may need antibiotics.

  4. Well the thing is, you just had a surgery. So of course your going to feel weak and nausous. After a surgery for the first couple of days you may feel fine and think you can go back to doing what you were doing before, but doing that will make you feel worse later on. After I got mine taken out, all I wanted to do was lay around, sleep, and eat soup. Take it really slow, you'll be like this for about 2 weeks. Also be careful with the painkillers, I became addicted to mine and took to many and had a really bad reaction.

You definally swell quite a bit, you look like you were punched in the mouth. But if it doesn't go down within a few days definally call your doctor. Once the swelling goes down you'll start to bruise.

And keep your wisdom pockets clean, I ended up getting food in my left side and it got into my glands and swelled them, I had to have surgery to get my gland taken out.

    Feel better!
