Ive had a sore throat since i woke up on sunday and its the worst ive ever had i cant swallow anything even my own saliva because it hurts so much i have to squint my eyes when swallowing because of the pain. i cant hardly eat or drink anything and i feel thirsty because i cant drink anything because it hurts. i also noticed earlier that on the left side of my neck near the front it really hurts when i press it just lightly and the back of my head is beginning to ache. my neck is becoming really stiff and i can hardly turn it because when i turn it right, the back of my head really aches and when i turn it the other way, my neck kills, and my throat is killing anyway, anyone know what it could be and how to get rid of it?

thanks

  1. I had a similar sore throat a few years ago, felt like razor blades were going down my throat every time I swallowed! Didn't have the pain in my neck though. I would definitely see a doctor if I was you, just to be on the safe side. you also need to be very careful that you don't get dehydrated as that will make you feel even worse and cause other problems.

    Get well soon!

  2. I have laryngitis right now and it feels similar. I thought it was strep throat at first but I had it tested and it came back negative. You should get into a dr if youre having that hard of a time swallowing anything. You could probably use an IV for water so you dont become dehydrated. Hope you feel better!

  3. firs ti thought strep but with the whole your neck hurts you should go to your doctor.

  4. aww bless ya heart! I had pharyngitis in january so I know how you're feeling.

I tried to cope for two days without a doctor, I was lucky to have my boyfriend stay at home with me but seriously, looking back I should have gone to the doc ASAP, well actually had him visit becuse I was too weak to leave my bed.

You need antibiotics, I was given pennicillin, and I felt SO much better within 48 hours, don't struggle alone.

I'll be thinking of you. x

  5. It could be tonsillitis flu.  I have this and felt like every common cold or virus was running through my body.

Are you run down, stressed, or over tired?  Your immune system could be low if you are.

Drink plenty fluids and get some sleep and try and eat something if you are up to it.

I would get yourself to a doctor just to be sure.  Or even go to the chemist and speak to someone who can advise what to  take.

  6. Sounds like tonsiliatis. thats the symptoms i get when iv got it. go and see a doctor, they will prescribe u with sum penicillin and it will be gone in a few days, try and rest as much as possible will help it 2.

  7. i got the same thing all you have to do is try to get the most sleep you can i know it hurts but you will feel better but sleeping not your only problem you have to drink lots and lots of water i recommand you eat jello, pudding, sherbert icecream (has no milk *milk makes flem*) dont spit alot or your family will get it i think its a bacteria infection so try to clean the house and advoid the bath room as much as you can (get up and move around you body needs exercise to use up energy and break down food faster)   hope you feel better

  8. If your neck is stiff you need to phone an on-call doctor now.

(If it is just sore it's swollen glands which is ur body trying to fight the infection.)

    Phone a Dr -

Especially if u have a high temperature, sensitivity to bright light or a rash anywhere on your body that doesn't dissapear completely when u press / roll a clear glass tumbler over it.

You need to get fluids & painkillers into u regardless of how sore it is 2 swallow.

try warm drinks e.g warm ribena as it may soothe ur throat a lttle & give ur body some sugar to help u feel better.  Or try hot water, honey & lemon juice with a little black pepper (sounds horrible but actually quite nice & very effective.

Alternatively suck icelollies to get fluids into yourself, dehydration will make u feel much worse & can be serious.

If u can take soluable asprin, try dissolving it in a little milk as it will coat the throat & be absorbed on site.

If you start to have difficulty breathing as your throat is so swollen - get the on-call dr immediately.

    Get well soon xx.
