Question:

Feeling not so confident after a third interview over the phone. Is a third interview good or bad?

I recently went for an interview and some testing for a receptionist job and, to my surprise, I was interviewed twice. The company sent me for drug testing and had me consent to a background test. I was sure I had the job because even the woman who interviewed me said that she was interested in me. This morning however, I got a call from someone else for an interview over the phone and he said that I should be receiving a call very soon but I didn't receive a call all today. Are third interviews a good sign or bad?

  1. Third interviews are good!

Think of it this way: interviewing is only a small part of what a company does, and takes time away from business as usual. They wouldn't have them if they weren't important, and don't do that many to save them time.

The same, in fact, is true for drug testing: they are paid for by the employer, and thus they don't give them to just anyone who applies.

Just be patient, sometimes the calls take a little bit. If you don't hear back by the end of the week, you can call to check in. But it's looking good for you, you should be proud! :)

  2. So long as they are taking the time  to interview you, you are still  in the running.  I'd say a third interview is much better than a rejection letter!

Remember that companies usually interview several people for every position.  That means that for most of your interviews, you won't get the job.

  3. Good sign!  If they didn't want you they would tell you point blank.

    Hope it goes well! :)

  4. From my point of view, a 3rd interview is a very good sign. Depending on how many applicants there were for the job it may take a bit of time for the company to decide which person would be the best choice for them.

Most of the time anything after the first interview is a good sign, the first interview is often only to get rid of people who are unqualified or that the company does not wish to hire.
