Question:

Feeling when you start a new job?

I'm mechanically inclined and now I found a job in construction. I don't really know anything and it's taking me a long time to get everything right. I'm a 21 year old man but when I'm at work I feel like a teenager that doesn't know what the h**l he's doing all over again. That and I'm short and i'm working with these really big, tall, muscular guys which doesn't really help me. Does anyone else feel this when they start learning a new trade?

  1. You just have to have confidence in yourself and know that it takes time to adjust. Those guys have been doing the same tasks for years and you are now stepping in their trade of life for the first time. The best thing to do is observe and ask questions. Show them that you want to learn and respect them. After they see that you actually want to learn and are trying they just might lend you a hand. Remember feelings show on your face so you need to hide that negativity and work hard. Good luck.

  2. What you are feel ing is natural. Just do the job as best to your capabilities and you will gain confidence. I am sure you didn't take the job based on your experience, so let it speak for itself.. Hey, and who knows, you may be small in comparison, but the job you do will speak volumes.

  3. no matter how much experience i had i had that feeling for the first few weeks on every new job/position i took over!!!
