Feelings from stopping breastfeeding?

I stopped breastfeeding my son yesterday. He was fussy at feedings and would not stay latched on and everything I did was not helpful. I did not wean or anything just stopped it all at once. My b*****s have been really engorged from the milk supply building up... but I have also been really super dizzy and nausous all day. I would have stopped breastfeeding yesterday at like 10am or so and was completely engorged by 9pm. The dizzy and nausousness just started this afternoon. No changes in diet or anythign else.

Could the dizzyness and nauseousness be from stopping breastfeeding, or could there be something else....? (My hubby and I did have unprotected s*x last week.)

  1. It is a possibility that you have mastitis. Mastitis is an infection caused when your milk builds up and an infection starts in your b*****s. Are they hard and lumpy? do they feel hot to the touch and your nipples look a little red? Mastitis can have flu like symptoms including a fever. IF this sounds like you then go to the doctor asap for some antibiotics. Mastitis can get very painful and nasty Id treat it asap

Although maybe it is just a normal part of weaning. This may sound weird but try putting cabbage leaves in your bra. They are really good for sore b*****s and mastitis.

  2. It definately could be.  You've got a build up of hormones and your body's confused.  It'll be at least 3 days until the engorgement dies down.  You can try to bind your b*****s (which I found most comfortable when i was engorged) or you could just sit with a towel under them and let them drain on their own.

  3. My hormones were nuts after I stopped breastfeeding, but I did wean.  I do remember feeling very nauseous about once a day.
