Feels like creepy crawlies are all over me! What is it?

I started eating Vegan on March 19 and have lost 19 pounds. I don't eat any meat or dairy or processed foods. For the last 10 days or so I feel like creepy crawlies or bugs are on me and I keep scratching them off! I am also extremely nervous and anxious due to medical problems. Any ideas?

  1. Since you are newly vegan your symptoms could be caused by your body detoxing.

However, when I first read your question it sounded a lot like Morgellon's Syndrome.  Morgellon's is a syndrome or disease where a person has strange sensations on the skin.  People with Morgellon's often complain of crawling, biting, or stinging sensations.

  2. You better see a doctor.

Sounds like your getting some kind of reaction from your new diet.

Are you getting enough fat for instance?

Very important to keep those brain cells working right.

Maybe an anxiety disorder that will eventually turn into panic disorder?

I think you did to much to soon.

    Get yourself checked out.

  3. If it's really bothering you, see a doctor.

  4. You have to understand that humans were not meant to sustain themselves on a vegan diet.  You need to check and make sure you are getting all of the nutrients and vitamins you need, and this includes protein and fat.

    Consult a doctor or dietitian.

  5. This never happened to me, nor any vegan that i'm friends with. I would make sure you are eating a healthy vegan diet, and consult a doctor.

The only time I heard of people feeling like they have bugs on them, trying to scratch them off, being nervous and anxious, those people were on meth.

  6. It could be an allergic reaction to something new in your diet.  You mention "medical problems," so I'm also wondering if any medications your on need adjusting to suit your new diet. I'd go see your doctor about this.

  7. You are experiencing a lack of fat in your diet.  Use a full body moisturizer to reduce the itching.  Meat gives a lot of necessary fat, and a lack leaves your skin dry.
