  1. one hand is 4inches and one foot is 3hands

  2. 4 inches = 1 hand/ 3 hands = 1 foot..

  3. 1 hand is 10 cm.  So there are like 3 hands in a foot.

Traditionally horses were literally measured in 'hands' - the width of an average man's hand.  Now it is generally accepted at 10 cm.

  4. Yeah, there are four inches in one hand.

  5. one hand is 4 inches, so 3 hands equals 12 inches, which is a foot. and you should have said how many hands equal a foot.

blooper z- if you multiplied 6 by 3 like you said, that would be 18 feet.

  6. Yes, 4" = 1 hand....3 hands = 1 ft.

    BTW~

    Blooper Z and Amber 6 h x 3 = 72" or 6 feet  or 18hh which would be a draft or friesian size +/-.

  7. 3 hands are equalivilant to 12 inches/1 foot. So, obivously, 1 hand is equal to 4 inches. So wen some one says something like, 6 hands, mulitply that by 3 to get the equalivilant feet.

    Hope I've helped!

  8. One hand is 4 inches. One foot is 3 hands.

Hand came about because they measure with the width of the average human hand, which is 4 inches.

When its like, 15.3 hands...the partial numbers (aka the .3) is the extra amount of fingers.

  9. Well there are 4 inches in one hand soooo:

    3 hands= 1 foot

    1 hand= 4 inches

  10. 4 inches to a hand. Numbers after the decimal are inches. \

    15.3 hh (hands high) is 15x4 +3, or 63 inches or 5'3"

Of course, since 4 inches equals a full hand, if someone tells you their horse is 14.5 Hands, they don't know what they are talking about. Also, make sure the measurement comes form the highest point on the withers with your horse standing on level ground, preferably with his head down to make the high point more visible. :)
