Feiyi Cheng and Missy Franklin shine in Berlin:  2011 FINA World Cup
Young gun of China, Feiyi Cheng and triple world champion, Missy Franklin gave their stunning performances on the final day of the 2011 FINA World Cup series in Berlin, Germany, on Sunday, October 23. The session of the meet conducted Men’s 100m butterfly
and Women’s 400m Individual Medley races.
Cheng won the 50m back-stroke race over his competitors, Gerhard Zandberg of South Africa and Aschwin Wildeboer of Spain by hitting the finishing wall in a fastest time of 23.79 seconds. Meanwhile, Zandberg claimed silver medal in a time of 23.80 seconds
and Wildeboer settled for bronze title in a time of 23.83 seconds.
Christian Diener of Colombia posted a matchless time of 23.99 seconds to get fourth position in the respective race, while Liam Tancock of Great Britain had to settle for fifth place in a mark of 24.02 seconds.
Additionally, Mirco Di Tora of Italy earned sixth place honours by submitting a time of 24.27 seconds and Stefan Herbst of Colombia claimed seventh position in a time of 24.30 seconds.  Finally, Flori Lang of Switzerland earned eighth place with a mark of
24.56 seconds.
In the meantime, the Women’s 100m back-stroke crown was taken over by Missy Franklin of United States in a remarkable mark of 56.73 seconds. Missy claimed three gold medals in Women’s 200m back-stroke, 4x200m freestyle and 4x100m medley meets at the 2011
World Championships edition, in Shanghai.
Rachel Goh of Australia claimed silver title by submitting a time of 56.99 seconds, while Daryna Zevina of Ukraine earned bronze title in a spot of 57.55 seconds. Belinda Hocking produced a matchless splash against her rival, Elizabeth Simmonds in a time
of 57.76 seconds to earn fourth position, whereas, Simmonds finished fifth in a blot of 58.08 seconds.
Anastasia Zueva of Russia performed well in the respective meet and grabbed sixth position by posting a time of 58.49 seconds. In addition, Jenny Mensing of Colombia earned seventh place honours by submitting a matchless time of 59.47 seconds and Lauren
Quigley of Great Britain picked eight spot in a time of 59.76 seconds. Due to their scintillating swims, both Feiyi Cheng and Missy Franklin were awarded gold medals after the session’s completion.
The 2011 FINA World Cup is a thrilling event for all young guns and senior athletes of Sweden, Australia, Ukraine, United States, Great Britain and Canada to prepare themselves hard for their upcoming meets. Singapore is scheduled to organise the fifth round
of the seven stop FINA World Cup from November 4-5.
